Normoten ia a beta -1- adrenoceptor blocking agent(i.e. cardioselective) without intrinsic sympathomimetic or membrane stabilising activities. Its mode of action in controlling hypertension is unclear. Normoten thought to reduce myocardial oxygen demand which makes it effective in eliminating or reducing the symptoms of angina. It is considered to reduce the size of infarction or number of re-infartions. Normoten has been shown also to have an antiarrhythmic effect.Following oral administration, about 50% of Normoten is absorbed with peak plasma concentrations occuring 2-4 hours after dosing. This plasma half-life of Normoten is about 6 hours. |
